Holland Enacts Plan to Charge Motorists for Each Kilometer Driven  

Gas tax hike dead in Virginia 

There are two different things that we are not currently paying full price for when driving. One is the cost of infrastructure and associated services; the other is the environmental impacts, especially climate impacts. The charge per mile driven is the fairest way to pay for infrastructure; a carbon tax associated with fuel is the best way to capture the second. Even a plug-in electric car that runs strictly off of solar sources should be charged for infrastructure.

$4 per gallon gasoline may be coming in 2010, but meantime, with fuel demand week, refineries shutting down
